Dear Mr. Bingham:
This is a follow up to your March 5 letter to Govemor Fineman
expressing support for the
issuance of a commemorative stamp honoring Hiram Bingham IV.
We regret the delay in
responding to your inquiry.
You will be pleased to leam that the nomination of Hiram Bingham
IV was reviewed by the
Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee at the April 22-23 meeting.
The nomination was placed
under consideration as a future stamp issuance. This Committee
is responsible for reviewing
stamp proposals and making subject and design recommendations
to the Postmaster General.
There is no specific time frame for the issuance of stamp
subjects. However, new stamps are
announced approximately six months prior to the year in which
the stamp will be issued. The
Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee works two to three years in
advance to meet stamp design
and production requirements. They are currently working on the
stamp programs for 2002 and
beyond.
Your interest in our stamp program is very much appreciated.
Sincerely,
